ART
I dunno if this will end up drowning in the infernal pits of Tumblr under a billion other posts BUT for what it’s worth, here we are. This has been one of those bee-ideas that seem to be blundering constantly into the back of my skull wanting to get out. I had been pondering one day about an all-female cast for the Arthurian legends and then this weekend I was reading through Malory’s Le Morte D’Arthur and decided to give it a shot, starting with Artio here.
In my headcanon, this is Queen Artio at the start of her reign, so still young and untried. There’s some debate about whether the Sword In The Stone and Excalibur are one and the same, so I choose to say this sword is the one in the stone and Artio’s first sword that goes by the name of Clarent (it’s semi-canon if you’ve read the Alliterative Morte Arthur)
the tedious process that went into this picture
-drawing
-inking with brown ink pens on funky, semi-clear decorative vellum(?)
-colored a bit with red prismacolor pencil
-scanned funky vellum paper over decorative scrapbook paper
-threw it all into pixlr and adjusted hue/saturation/contrast until I was happy
-SUFFERED FOR MY ART (ow my hand)
all in all I’d say this took me about hrglbrgl hours. have no idea when I’ll have the next one up but anyway…
